The February birth flowers are the violet and primrose. Violets (Viola) are known for their delicate appearance and sweet fragrance. They have five-petaled flowers that come in a variety of colors, including purple, blue, violet, white, and yellow; some are even multi-colored. Irises are known for their unique shape and vibrant colors. The three upright petals of an iris bloom can represent courage, faith, wisdom, friendship, hope, and compliments.

✨ Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ✨
Today, we remember and celebrate the life and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose tireless dedication to justice, equality, and love continues to inspire us all. His message of nonviolent resistance and his dream of a world where everyone is judged by the content of their character still resonate today.
Let’s reflect on how far we’ve come, but also on how much work remains to build a more just and inclusive world. May we continue to fight for equality, stand up for what is right, and carry forward Dr. King’s powerful vision of peace and unity.

The carnation is the birth flower for January: Carnations are a popular choice for January because they are able to bloom in the winter months. They are also steeped in symbolism, with their formal name, dianthus, coming from the Greek word for "heavenly flower". Carnations can symbolize love, whether it's romantic, familial, or the love of a friend.
January also has another birth flower, the snowdrop, which symbolizes rebirth and overcoming obstacles. Snowdrops are small, white flowers that bloom in the winter months and can cover large areas of the ground.
In the modern era, many months have multiple birth flowers, allowing people to choose the one they feel a stronger connection with.

Happy New Year! City offices are closed today. Normal hours resume tomorrow, January 2nd.
