The Mineola Fire Department recently hosted the Kindergarten class from Mineola Primary School to teach the young students about fire safety in a fun and engaging way.
The students enjoyed a lively puppet show that helped explain important fire safety tips, followed by a demonstration of what a firefighter looks like in their full protective gear. The children also had the chance to practice the life-saving technique of "Stop, Drop, and Roll" as part of the hands-on learning experience.
A big thank you to the Mineola Fire Department team for their dedication and support in educating the community's youngest citizens: Aaron Munn, Operations Chief, Mike Davis, Firefighter, and Jamie Finley, Firefighter for their time and expertise!

Mineola Landmark Commission’s “Past and Present” Home Tour
The Mineola Landmark Commission welcomes you to join them for their “Christmas Past and Present” Home Tour. It will be held Sunday, December 8th, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Tickets are $20 each and may be purchased ahead of time at City Hall and from any landmark member. Tickets may also be purchased the day of the tour at any participating site. Proceeds from the tour will benefit Iron Horse Square and Junior Historian projects.
Four locations will be featured on the tour. Two homes will be representing the past: the McDonald home which is a 1930s Tudor Revival home located at 401 East Kilpatrick, and the Wisdom home which was built in 1892 and will feature an outdoor winter wonderland in the pool/garden area located at 512 Sycamore. Representing the present is the Roberts home which is a new build at 2311 CR 2720. Also on the tour is the Mineola Country Club which will honor the legacy of the past. Due to the loss of the original building by a fire, it has recently been rebuilt and is helping keep a piece of Mineola History alive for the present and future.
Refreshments will be served at each location and door prizes will be awarded.

Texas Secretary Nelson reminds voters to check their ballots before finalizing their vote
AUSTIN — As Texans go to the polls for early voting ahead of the November 5 election, Secretary Nelson encourages voters to double-check their precinct numbers and candidate selections before casting a ballot.
“Texas has more than 18 million registered voters, and we want to make sure every eligible vote counts. All voting systems in Texas are designed to give voters an opportunity to review their selections before casting their ballot,” said Secretary Nelson. “I encourage Texas voters to use this built-in opportunity to double-check the selections.”
Voters can find their precinct number by using My Voter Portal, which they can navigate to through VoteTexas.gov. Additionally, precinct numbers are printed on voter registration cards.
In counties with digital recording machines, voters will see a review screen with all of their selections before pushing a button to cast their ballot. In other counties, voters will receive a printout of their selections to review before depositing the ballot.
For other tips and additional information about voting in Texas, visit VoteTexas.gov, the state’s official online voting resource.
If you have any questions regarding this announcement, please e-mail Alicia Pierce at apierce@sos.texas.gov.

Skillet Licorice set to perform this evening at the Select Theatre! They will kick off at 7 p.m. We hope to see you there!
The members of Skillet Licorice are in town from San Francisco, but they are a band whose heart lies in Mineola. That’s right! Skillet Licorice, as it turns out, are devotees of the East Texas Serenaders. The East Texas Serenaders were a powerhouse string band from the 1920s and 1930s whose sophisticated take on hillbilly music launched the Western Swing movement. Hailing from farms around Mineola and Lindale, the East Texas Serenaders are generally credited with paving the way for the likes of Milton Brown and Bob Wills.

Mark your calendars for the Birds of Prey Q&A event with a local falconer at the Mineola Nature Preserve Amphitheater on Saturday, November 2nd at 11:00 a.m.

Join us for a Historical marker dedication on West Commerce Street and Line Street for the East Texas Serenaders on Monday, October 21st from 5:00 pm to 6:00pm. Presented by the City of Mineola's Landmark Commission.

JUNK IN THE TRUNK SALE will be Saturday, October 19th. Make plans to come out and find your treasures.
