MINEOLA, TX – On March 1, 2021, Mayor of Mineola Kevin White and Mineola City Council extended a local declaration of disaster for the City of Mineola, related to damages from February's Winter Storm Uri. The extension will give Mineola citizens more time to report damages and apply for FEMA disaster relief.

On February 22, 2021, Mayor Kevin White signed a Declaration of Disaster for the City of Mineola, due to recent severe winter weather event starting February 14, 2021, which caused widespread severe damages, injuries, loss of life, or properties and a strain on infrastructure resulting from severe ice and snowstorm.  The Mayor of Mineola has determined that extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of the people and to protect or rehabilitate properties.

The local disaster declaration by the City of Mineola followed the County and State’s Disaster Declaration as pursuant to the §418.108 (a) of Texas Government Code.  The declaration of a local state of disaster shall continue for a period of not more than seven days from the date of this declaration unless continued or renewed by the Mineola City Council as pursuant to §418.108 (b) of the Texas Government Code.
