JOB SUMMARY: Utility Billing Clerk/Customer Service
JOB CLASS: Non-exempt, Full-Time
PAY RANGE: $12-$14/hour
SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITY: City Secretary
Under the supervision of the City Secretary, the Utility Billing Clerk/Customer Service Representative is responsible for efficiently managing customer inquiries, processing payments, and performing various administrative tasks for the Water Department, and other city departments as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide courteous and effective customer service in person, over the phone, and in writing.
- Address customer inquiries regarding utility accounts, services, and city departments.
- Processes utility payments and manage cash receipts.
- Handle connect and disconnect orders for water and wastewater services.
- Operate computer systems for billing and data management.
- Conduct data entry tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Assist in routine accounting functions.
- Perform clerical duties such as filing, sorting, and document retrieval.
- Take reservation calls for the Mineola Nature Preserve Park.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED; some college preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook.
- Minimum one year of clerical experience, preferably in accounts payable/receivable.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to handle difficult situations with customers.
- Collaborate with diverse personalities and contribute positively to team dynamics.
- Detail-oriented with excellent computer skills.
- Fast learner with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Knowledge of utility software and general ledger software is a plus.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- May be required to serve as a Notary Public.
- Perform general office tasks such as document copying and equipment maintenance.
DRESS CODE:
- Business casual attire, with discretion for special occasions.
- Jeans, khakis, cropped pants, and capris allowed on Fridays or special occasions (no holes).
- No flip-flops, short skirts, dresses, or shorts.
- No revealing or see-through tops, bare midriffs, visible body art, or excessive body jewelry.
