2024 Black History Program

This year's Black History Month Program hosted by the Mineola Historical Museum Board will showcase the McFarland South Ward Museum on Thursday, February 15th, at 6:30 pm.

A Ribbon-cutting for the new museum was held last July. It was the idea of the retired 41-year educator, Shirley Roberson and began with her collecting information about the school's veterans. With the help of her family members, she has copied and framed photos and memorabilia displayed recognizing many of the school's alumni and staff. It is located in a room just off the lobby of the L.C. Gregory Athletic Complex.

The program will be held in the Addie E. McFarland Center with Roberson speaking on her mission of the museum. Mineola High School Graduate, Jill Brandon, will sing during the program and the Museum Board member will provide refreshments.

After the program, attendees will be invited and encouraged to walk across the breezeway to the gym and view the museum. the museum can be viewed by request on days when the McFarland Center is open. The McFarland complex is located on MLK Boulevard, south of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.
