Job Summary:  WATER SERVICES TECHNICIAN

Job Class:  Non-exempt, Full-Time

Supervision Responsibility:  Asst. Public Works Director

 

Under direct supervision; responsible for performance of a variety of manual tasks during construction, repair and maintenance of city water system, wastewater system and treatment facilities; involves close contact with other employees and moderate contact with the general public; and does related work as required.

Essential Job Functions:

Assists in the construction, repair and maintenance of the water system, wastewater system and treatment facilities; dig and fill holes; loads and unloads trucks; cleans, services, repairs and maintains grounds, equipment, buildings and facilities; performs all work in a safe, proper and acceptable manner; lifts and carries up to 100 pounds; pull, push or drag up to 150 pounds; operates various push type or hand held power tools such as lawnmowers, edgers, line trimmers, rotary tillers, compactors, jackhammers, drills, pipe cutters and chain saws; operates various hand held tools such as shovels, rakes, hoes, spades, wrenches, sockets and all other water and wastewater system tools; reads water meters; works outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings and inclement weather; some exposure to dust, odor, electrical, mechanical and toxic hazards, using proper safety precautions; climbs ladders of various heights; installs ditch wall shoring equipment; works in tight or enclosed areas such as trenches, ditches, manholes, pump stations, wet wells, lift stations, etc.; works bent over or on knees or sits, stands, squats or stoops for extended periods of time while participating in water and wastewater operations; walks through brush or entangled areas along creeks and other areas; works safely in close proximity to high speed traffic; communicates courteously and effectively in person, on the telephone, on the radio, or in writing in the English language with other city employees and the public; subject to twenty four hour call; works weekends and holidays as required; performs heavy manual labor.

Job Requirements:

Requires knowledge of water and wastewater system networks.

(Prefered) Have Class C Wastewater Treatment License and Class C Water License

Required Education, Degrees, Certificates and/or License:

High School Diploma or GED; Texas CDL

Experience, Training, Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of operation of hand tools; understand and follow written and oral instructions; mechanical aptitude to make minor repairs and adjustments in the field preferred.
