Building Inspection

Building Inspections

The Building Inspection Department provides a variety of services that directly impact all of the residents of the community including: support to the Board of Adjustments, general and specific guidance to those individuals and corporations interested in some aspect of construction whether a small residential addition or a new shopping center or residential neighborhood; and review or coordination of all types of building permits for compliance with adopted ordinances.

The mission of the Building Inspection Department is to provide professional support, guidance, and assistance to the citizens of Mineola who are directly or indirectly involved with building or altering the built environment of the community, so that any such activity is consistent with the policies, building codes and ordinances adopted by the City Council and other regulatory agencies.

Protecting the public’s health, safety and welfare is our department’s highest priority.  The construction of safe buildings is achieved through the adoption and application of nationally recognized building codes adopted by the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council. The City of Mineola currently uses the 2015 International Building Code references in accordance with state guidelines and 2014 National Electrical Code references. The International Code Council or ICC is a nationally recognized association which publishes the International Building Codes.  The City of Mineola has adopted these codes and our Building Inspector and Plan Review are charged with reviewing and inspecting all construction activities within the city, in conformance to these standards.

The issuance of building permits, certificates of occupancy, and fire & safety inspections, insures that all structures conform to the adopted codes.  This division strives to ensure accessory structures, pools, fences and additions are safe and compliant.  Removal of unsafe structures in order to provide a safe environment is a top priority.
